Helm was appointed to provide project and cost management services for the refurbishment and extension of a distinguished 1890s semi-detached Victorian villa in Gosforth, located within the Conservation Area. Recognised in the NCC Gosforth Character Statement as one of the area’s notable Victorian villas, the project required a careful balance between preserving historical character and introducing modern enhancements.
Working closely with Musson Brown Architects, the design was carefully tailored to respect the villa’s heritage while incorporating essential upgrades. The property underwent extensive refurbishment and redesign, resulting in a high-quality finish with premium fixtures, elegant interior detailing, and improved lighting throughout. Particular attention was given to the corner glazing, including narrow-frame sliding doors in the dining room and a rear window with a roof light over the kitchen, maximising natural daylight and enhancing the living spaces.
This project highlights Helm’s expertise in managing sensitive, high-quality residential refurbishments, ensuring both preservation and modern functionality are delivered to the client’s satisfaction.
