Project Management and Cost Control for Bupa’s Cromwell Hospital Radiotherapy Department

Cromwell Hospital, London

Project Management and Cost Control for the multi-phased refurbishment of the existing radiotherapy department within Bupa Cromwell Hospital, Kensington. This logistically challenging project involved complex phasing works to lower ground floor and basement of an existing hospital that remained operational during the 17 month project. New facilities provided include traditional radiotherapy treatment bunker refurbishment, a new state of the art MRI image guided radiotherapy treatment facility, a gamma knife suite, exercise rehabilitation facility and newly refurbished consultant suites with ancillary accommodation.

The types of materials and finishes used had to comply with strict infection control requirements and in some areas is governed by the requirements of the specialist equipment being used.

Timber shelving units divide the seating areas into more intimate spaces and timber slatted panelling stained in a soft elm colour reinforces the use of natural materials throughout, counterbalancing the clinical setting.

The treatment rooms feature an illuminated image of a bright blue sky and colourful blossom within the overhead ceiling panels to help calm patients whilst undergoing treatment and to help focus whilst remaining still.
